Specialists that is…
For the past 10 or more years, at the recommendation of Omicron Engineering, I’ve used a company called Keys Galore when I’ve needed a new key made for an old lock. ‘Britain’s Largest Range of Keys‘ is the bold assertion on their unassuming shop front, found on a residential street in a smart north London enclave, Primrose Hill.
I cycled up there this morning with the ignition switch and driver’s door lock from B20-2959, and dropped them in person with Keys Galore’s Fred Doig. The car should have a single key for all its locks (I think), so I’m hoping that once a key has been matched to the tumblers in these two barrels, I’ll be able to open the boot.
The Keys Galore shop/workshop was just as I had imagined it – having only done business with them by mail order before: rows of reference books and endless small drawers full of key blanks. Compared to the average high street or station key-cutting shop this place is Harrods to a corner shop.
