B10-2283

Acquired from Sweden c. 2002; off the road since the mid-60s and now (early 2011) nearing the end of an extensive body restoration.  The car didn’t have much rust (all original floorpans are good, and the sills were mainly fine), but the correcting of previous shoddy repairs and fettling to get panel fit spot-on wasn’t quick, or cheap).

Update, Jan 2011:  B10*2283 now has its own blog, which can be found here.

The car has its (rare, most were cloth) original leather interior.

This is the build information, supplied by the Registro Aurelia Italiano:

The Aurelia books say it is a 1950 car, so it seems that the date the car started production – 27th Dec. 1950 – is its ‘age’, rather than the date of completion in 1951.

When acquired, 2283 had wings with no slots for trafficators, but the original wiring for them still in place behind, so a replacement pair (Carello) were eventually found and measurements made for the exact mounting position (thanks to Francesco Gandolfi who got his tape measure out for me).  The sidelight mountings beneath the headlights have also been closed up, as per the earliest B10s as seen in the launch photo above, giving a cleaner look; the original design conception for this ground-breaking model – the very first of the famous Aurelias.

If you’re feeling strong and have more-or-less unlimited bandwidth and time, the picture below titled ‘Aurelia B10 body restoration’ links to two Picasa albums containing more than 1,700 photographs of the body restoration. Uploaded and posted here in case they are of use to someone involved in a future restoration…

  1. Jonathan Angell says:

Dear William. Our B10 1950 has now started to progress again at last! We last communicated in
2007 when I e-mailed some pix of our B10 semaphores. Since then I have been very ill, a “minor”
infection in my middle finger resulting in acute kidney failure and amputation of the 3 middle fingers on my right hand. The interior restoration is well underway, and (because of my now impaired dexterity) Omiron is assembling the engine. Our car has an indicated 60, 000 kms.
so despite lack of exercise forabout 50 yrs. seems in fair fettle.
    Best regards, Jonathan Angell.
